LinkedIn isn’t just for professionals and job seekers. Sure, millions of professionals use LinkedIn every day to create their personal profile, grow their networks and their careers, but little did you know you can use LinkedIn to grow your business, too? From making connections to generating leads, meeting potential customers, establishing partnerships and creating better brand awareness, LinkedIn makes an invaluable addition to your digital marketing strategy, as LinkedIn groups marketing plays a vital role in branding strategies.
Start with connections, then build relationships
Understand that LinkedIn is a social network for professionals to connect with other professionals. Social media management is entirely different and distinguished from other social media networks. A business owner can, and should, connect with prospects, strategic partners, referral partners and other business owners. The business owner can decide how to nurture specific targetted connections to grow the relationship with them, once those connections are made.
Grow Your LinkedIn Network
While there are many ways of growing your LinkedIn network, I’d like to share one with you that is remarkably easy and effective, strategic, and likely one that you haven’t seen before.
Here’s the short version:
Convert highly connected group-only connections to 1st-degree connections.
Why is this so effective?
There are a few reasons:
3rd Degree Conversion
Converting people who are beyond your 3-degree network on LinkedIn directly to 1st-degree connections is pretty much one of the biggest jumps you can make. Converting 2nd degree connections to 1st degree connections doesn’t provide as big of an infusion of new people into your LinkedIn network as would converting a 3rd degree connection directly to a 1st degree connection, and going totally beyond your 3 degrees of separation to group-only connections and moving them directly to 1st degree connections brings the largest infusion of new people into your LinkedIn network, because the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree connections of your group-only connections are ALL beyond your network before you connect with them. Convert Your Highly Connected People
Specifically converting highly connected people who are beyond your 3-degree network on LinkedIn to 1st-degree connections yields you the largest net gain to your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree networks.
Sending invitations to connect with people you share a group with is one of the easiest and most effective methods of connecting with people you don’t know directly.
Super connectors (people who are highly connected on LinkedIn), know that these connections provide the boost to business growth, are more likely to accept invitations to connect with people they don’t know personally. As they
Let’s Create A LinkedIn Group
LinkedIn makes it easy to create a group. Groups are helpful for networking, potential prospects for your business and job searching, so if you know of a reason you should have a group, don’t hesitate to get one going. When you’re ready to create your own LinkedIn group, just follow these simple steps.
- Visit My Groups and Click on Create Group
- Provide your group information and settings, including Group Title, Description, Group Rules, and choose Group Membership Type.
- Save Changes, and Voila!
- Invite your Connections.
Let’s discuss these steps briefly.
Visit My Groups
You see your Groups page, with the main section and a Create a Group button along the right side of the screen.
Now, this is where you input all the information about your newly requested group.
You have only 300 characters in your group description, so choose your words wisely.
A quick tip: If you’re wondering what to write for your group description, search for similar groups using the search box at the top of the page and read through similar groups in your group type. Followed by going back to the Create a Group page and enter your description. (If you check other group descriptions while writing your description, you’ll lose whatever you typed.)
Invite Your Connections!
Invite your connections, make sure you invite only those connections who are interested in specific scope and topics of discussions in your group.
Pro Tip: Here’s a secret sauce to find your ideal, ready-to-buy prospects right away on LinkedIn: Create your own LinkedIn group to start with. After you have your LinkedIn group set up, go out and join as many groups (LinkedIn allows you to be in 50 total) where your prospects are hanging out. The next step is to pick one of those new groups you’ve joined and started working the Members page to find prospects. Wait for the approval, once you’re inside the group and approved as a member, click on Members, then filter the list of members further by searching for certain job titles or something else to jot down the list and then filter them to your ideal prospects, and then invite them to join your group. This will boost your marketing efforts. (tip: send personalized invitations).
You are probably thinking of course that you should be using Publish on LinkedIn, just like I should be posting my own blog and other social media sites. But who has the time and resources?
