Twitter recently announced that on March 23rd, 2018, they will be making changes to their policies to reduce the increase of spam on Twitter. Twitter is restricting the ability for users to automate actions across multiple accounts, which includes posting the same tweet to more than one Twitter profile at once. As Twitter explained in their announcement blog, the changes are intended to keep Twitter safe and spam-free. “One of the most common spam violations we see is the use of multiple accounts and the Twitter developer platform to attempt to artificially amplify or inflate the prominence of certain Tweets. To be clear: Twitter prohibits any attempt to use automation for the purposes of posting or disseminating spam, and such behavior may result in enforcement action.”

“The more clarity we can build, the more trust we’ll have,” said Dorsey during a live stream broadcast, but many believe this latest move to curb malicious behavior is punishing the wrong users.

The New Change

Twitter’s new guidelines prohibit the following actions:

  • Posting the same or substantially similar content, replies, or mentions over multiple accounts you control.
  • Creating duplicate or substantially similar accounts, with or without the use of automation.
  • Posting multiple updates (on a single account or across multiple accounts you control) to a trending or popular topic (for instance, through the use of a specific hashtag) with an intent to subvert or manipulate the topic, or to artificially inflate the prominence of a hashtag or topic.

The new rules basically combat against spamming and false spreading content on Twitter, targets bad actors abusing social network which creates and spreads it, by making it harder to create or by controlling accounts to make it look like a particular point of view has more support than it actually does.If you are already following industry’s best practices for social media management specifically Twitter Marketing, the changes are unlikely to affect your business. Repeating through Single Account

To the Brands

It has been possible to post the same content to multiple social networks (and multiple accounts) for a long time now, “exact cross-posting” is not a strategy we recommend because each network has its own unique characteristics and users, so while applying the same strategy to multiple networks might seem like a shortcut or just lacking creativity. Making newer fresh content as per the need of medium can cost you more in engagement and authenticity than it saves you in time and effort. Retweeting here is the best option from your primary account especially when you are a brand. Somehow, it can be worthy to give your brand value of primary and central sources, rather than posting identical content, hence lead entire team or company towards personalized context for same points. A solid cross-promotion strategy helps you speak the language of each platform, and can actually help increase the reach of your content.

In a Nutshell

Twitter’s new policy is really important to be understood first, as social media are for building meaningful connection among the people rather than just advertising and unsymmetrical, and abundant content promotion.
